Sphesihle "Sphe" Mthembu

Commercial Voiceover Artist

"First lesson to first national spot — eight months."

Before VOISA

Part-time DJ in Pretoria. A friend who'd booked a beer ad heard him on the mic and said, 'You should be doing voice'. Sphe tried YouTube tutorials, got stuck on breath control, and shelved the idea for two years.

What Changed

He joined Academy Pro and finished Voice Foundations in four weeks. On his fourth take of the Cinematic Documentary script, Craig wrote back: 'You're rushing the third breath — slow it, own it, let the line land'. He never rushed a breath again.

Anika van der Merwe

Narration & Audiobook Voice Artist

"Hobby to R12k a month. The feedback changed everything."

Before VOISA

Cape Town primary school teacher with a reading voice her colleagues kept asking to record stories for their kids. Recorded weekend audiobooks at home for fun but had no idea how to price, pitch, or find paying work.

What Changed

Bought the Lifetime Pass on a Black Friday whim. The Rate Card Suggester gave her the confidence to quote R8,500 for her first corporate explainer. She thought she'd be laughed out of the room. She got the gig that afternoon.

Now Booking

Standard Bank internal training narration. Discovery Health e-learning modules. A Pan Macmillan Afrikaans audiobook. Quoting like a pro, booking like one too.

VOISA Graduate · Class of 2025 · Johannesburg

Lerato Khumalo

Multilingual E-Learning & IVR Specialist

"Three languages, one reel, every week a new booking."

Before VOISA

Quality coach at a Joburg call centre. Trained agents in tone and pace all day, then went home wondering if her own voice could earn more than her job.

What Changed

Signed up for the Studio Career Launcher. Built a 10-track demo reel across English, isiZulu, and Sesotho. Craig directed her first reel session himself, calling out an old vocal habit she'd been masking since school.

Now Booking

A Sasol e-learning rollout in three languages. Two corporate IVR systems. Weekly mobile-banking voice confirmations. Quit the day job in month nine.
